Nootropics: L-Theanine

Nootropic-a substance that enhances cognition and memory and facilitates learning.

Nootropics are a hot topic gaining popularity. They can be classified as a substance that alters your state of mind in a positive way. They should be used with caution and to a level that is comfortable for you.

I was surprised to find that some nootropics are consumed on a regular basis already. Caffeine and Nicotine are two most commonly and due to their negative side effects, it’s easy to see that they are not always a good thing if used improperly.

Green Tea

My favorite L-Theanine is commonly found in green tea. It is known for improving mental focus and having a calming effect. It can improve memory retention and recall, while also increasing dopamine levels regulating happiness.

L-Theanine Benefits

“Tea time is a chance to slow down, pull back and appreciate our surroundings.”

Letitia Baldrige

Using green tea on a daily basis, I enjoy its benefits. It works for me in the middle of the day when things are a bit hectic. It helps bring my mind back to focus, avoiding mental overwhelm and stress.

“There is something in the nature of tea that leads us into a world of quiet contemplation of life.”

Lin Yutang

My favorite brand is rishi tea due to its high quality. I have tried various types and these three common ones I have a personal take on.

Matcha

Probably the most well known green tea is Matcha. It has the highest L-Theanine content and has a potent earthy plant taste to it. Although it is the most beneficial, it is not my favorite. It is the only green tea that gives me slight nausea. I do get the calming mental effect but drink this one sparingly. I enjoy it best when mixed in with other teas or recipes.

Sencha

My favorite, Sencha tea has a more balanced taste to me. I feel the benefits of L-Theanine but with the overwhelming taste that may turn some off to green teas. It has a subtle leafy taste to it.

Jade Tea

Jade tea is mild as well with a subtle floral taste. It is not my favorite taste but it works for the positive effects of the tea. I tend to switch it up when I am bored with Sencha tea.

Tea is the magic key to the vault where my brain is kept.”

Frances Hardinge

Between the difference types of green tea, I enjoy the calming and stimulating effect it has as a mid day beverage. It is a great compliment following my morning coffee. The effect is a balanced day with a fresh mind.

How is your green tea experience? Which are your favorite? Let me and share your experience.
